Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8, 13 NIV)
The First Sight
Summer 2015
Kai: People sometimes say that when you know, you just know. Yet if anyone had asked me this time one year ago, I would have been the last person to say that someone could find love in New York City and experience love at first sight. All of those misconceptions were quickly shattered the first night I met Kyu.
Kyu: Kai and I met at a professional networking event in New York. I remember our conversation went on something like this: “Hi, my name is Kyu.”, then Kai went “Can I put t-i-e after that?”. Sorry Kai, I thought that was a really bad joke at the moment. I DO LOVE your jokes now! Plus, that joke made me remember you!
Kai: You’d better! You will hear them forever and I was referring to the orange brand! :p Well, Summer 2015 was a tough season in my life. There was this night when I read the book of Job in the Bible as I was searching for answers. After I finished, I went on Facebook, scrolling down, and I saw Kyu got baptized! I never said ‘God bless you’ or anything similar to that before that night but somehow I felt I should.
Kyu: I was in full of joy when Kai messaged me that God used my baptism to touch a soul! I invited Kai to Time Square Church and Kai said he would love to attend.
The First “Date”
Fall 2015
Kai: Kyu and I tried to coordinate to attend a service together, but we had missed each other for a while. When we finally confirmed a date, I thought it was a date, suited up to look nice. (And put some concealer on my face for a perfection.)
Kyu: Funny enough, I didn’t know it was a date and showed up in my gym clothes after my Crossfit. I thought Kai was in a suit because he is in finance industry. Looking back, Kai was always in his suit until I asked if he needs to wear suits for work! My heart melted when I found out that was just for our dates.
Kai: Over hot chocolates with giant marshmallows and some good sweet pastries at Amy’s Bread, Kyu and I had a great conversation. During our talk, I just reassured myself that Kyu is the one who I want to spend the rest of my life.

Girlfriend & Boyfriend
Fall 2015
Kyu: Having a light dinner before the service became a new routine for us, and Kai and I both always fully enjoyed our time together. As I spent more time with Kai, he won my heart and I was so happy to be his girlfriend when Kai asked.
Kai: As a couple we did a lot of things together – skiing, ice staking, hosting Thanksgiving dinner, painting, and more!
Kyu: I think I have some pictures!
The Engagement
Summer 2016
Kai: From the first moment when I met Kyu, I knew I would ask her to marry me. I wanted to make this special, and started to plan a huge event. At 3 a.m. on June 10th I woke up out of blue. As I was on this event planning, I watched proposal videos on Youtube, read about proposal plans on Wiki How. When I heard a weather forecast that the day would be beautiful, I knew it was the day. Life is full of surprises, and my plan needed to be changed. So I changed my plan, and decided to propose to Kyu at Amy’s Bread, where we had the first “Date”. I called up to the coffee shop, asked them for a help, and practiced how to propose to Kyu in Korean, her native language.
Kyu: When I showed up at the coffee shop, Kai was in his suit like he did when we had our first date. I was like….“Hahaha you’re being so nostalgic!” Then Kai suggested to take a vlog which we did couple of times in the past – K&K video series. While we were taking the video, Kai started his speech of love, got down on his knees and asked me to marry him. I didn’t hesitate even 0.1 second but said YES! After we got engaged, we headed to the church and glorified our God for His amazing grace.
